Background and Expertise
Jan studied at the University of Law, Chester, where she graduated with Distinction. With a 2.1 degree in International Business from studies in the Netherlands and Plymouth University, she brings a multifaceted understanding to her legal practice.
Her journey into law was preceded by five years in cross-media publishing in London, and an ISO9000 analysis role in a Cornish manufacturing company. This, coupled with her experience in a Welsh outdoor pursuits company, provided her with unique perspectives and a strong foundation in business dynamics.
Jan joined Aaron & Partners as a trainee solicitor 2001 and was made a partner at the firm in 2016.

Jan’s expertise spans business recovery, turnaround and insolvency for both corporate and private clients, together with solvent liquidations. Her skills extend to commercial dispute resolution and litigation. She guides her clients through wide ranging matters such as antecedent transaction claims, director disqualification proceedings and Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVAs).
With a determined and focused approach, Jan alleviates the stress of dealing with insolvency matters. Her firsthand business experience, including management during administrative receivership, provides invaluable insights into her clients' challenges.
Jan works across corporate and private client domains, with particular focus on business recovery, advice relating to director’s duties and bespoke IVAs in complex financial situations. She excels in tailoring advice and solutions while maintaining a compassionate and understanding approach.

Beyond her legal practice, Jan is Vice Chair of the Cheshire & Warrington Business Advisory Board, Chair of Chester Business Club and a Governor of the Countess of Chester Hospital Foundation Trust and Reaseheath College & University Centre. She previously served 9 years as a Non-Executive Director of Muir Group Housing Association and 20 years as Secretary of Chester Regatta. Jan is a member of the Institute of Directors, a fellow of the Association of Business Recovery Professionals and licensed as an insolvency practitioner by the ICAEW.
Recent Work Examples
- More than 25 appointments as Liquidator, Trustee in Bankruptcy and Supervisor of Voluntary Arrangements, over a range of sectors including construction, wholesale, retail, online sales, software and education. Activities include realisation of assorted assets, Court proceedings including examination of debtors, reporting to creditors and estate administration. Voluntary arrangements were all successfully completed and involved analysis of the debtor’s financial position and balancing interests of debtor and creditors.
- Works collaboratively with financial advisors and accountants to develop viable recovery plans for corporations and individuals.
- Represented Chester Business Club in public forums to strengthen its influence and community presence, including meetings of the Local Enterprise Partnership, Cheshire Business Group, River Dee Summit, Chester Residents’ Associations Group and University of Chester Business School.
